JANUARY 11, 1923 - WINTER GOLF

Left-handed Ralph Washburn makes his drive from the 14th tee (now the 6th) of the old Chicago Club golf course as his partner, Will Hampton, watches. A full 18 holes was played. the ground was so hard they allowed each other to tee up the ball for each shot. Without doubt, the original WINTER GOLF.

WITHOUT BENEFIT OF A ROPE

The masters of the larger ships were skittish about turning around in Round Lake. They either went on through into Lake Charlevoix, or used one of the many tugs available. Captain Finucan was the first to attempt a complete unassisted turn around and docking. As shown in these pictures he brought the MANITOU neatly through the channel and as neatly turned her around, and docked. Most captains thereafter followed his example.
